Dear Visitor, You’re welcome to my homepage!

My name is Sándor Pálfi, I was born in Szeged – in the City of Sunshine. I have been in tight connection with nature since my childhood. I was always fascinated by variety of plants – especially by trees. I was thinking a lot about how could I show the intrinsic values, rich colours, structures and also the light effects of wood.

Because of the whims of life, I have found myself in the wood industry and worked in it for a few years. I had the opportunity to met someone who explained the basics of wood marquetry to me. This was such an inspiration, that made me learning more about this technique and improve my skills by myself. My artworks were the result of this process, whereby I would like to showcase the impressive diversity of wood.

As an introduction, I would like to mention some of the beautiful and unique exotic trees, which I used for my artworks: afrormosia (Pericopsis elata), bubinga (Guibourtia tessmannii), avodire (Turraeanthus africana), padouk (Pterocarpus soyauxii), ocume (Aucoumae klaineana), paliszander (Dalbergia genus), anigrePouteria genus), mahogany (basically: Swietenia mahagoni).

Based on years of work and experience I feel, I have found that way of expression, which can faithfully reflect the origin and values of the wood. I can define this artistic method as a novel genre, a unique combination of mosaic and inlaid (marquetry) techniques. This is implemented by mosaic-like juxtaposition of wood (veneer) plates with different types, colours and structures; quasi creating itself the tree over and over again. The ancient marquetry technique also plays an important role, since the theme of the pictures is made with inlay. The artwork is formed by this duality of techniques, to which the natural beauty of the wood also contributes.

I hope sincerely, that my works carry off the interest in wood and nature. I wish you a good browsing on this site!

Best Regards,
